Even for famous performers who came to Japan around 1935, if 400 people attended at one time, it was considered to be a moderate success. Amidst these circumstances, in 1936, Chaliapin came to Japan and performed at the public hall, and his unprecedented success is still talked about today.
Admission fees were also 2 yen, 4 yen, and 6 yen, the highest levels at the time. It was an unusually heavy snowfall that day, and the snow that began falling in the evening filled the land quickly. The audience, however, had no idea that it would snow so heavily, and it was only after the concert was over and they stepped outside that they were shocked to see the heavy snowfall that night. It is reported that many spectators, unable to return home because of the halted transportation, spent the night on seats in the public hall.
