50th Anniversary Project

From October 13 to 26, 1979, the “Photo and Program Exhibition” was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the public hall, and was a great success, attracting nearly 1,000 visitors per day. The commemorative concerts held at the same time included a family concert by the Japan Ground Self Defense Force Central Band on the first day, the 18th, and despite the approach of typhoon No. 20 on that day, the venue was packed with the audience.

The Tomin Symphony Orchestra concert was scheduled to be held on the second day, October 19, but the concert was canceled when the typhoon hit the Tokyo metropolitan area and strong winds toppled a cedar tree in front of the public hall, paralyzing most transportation systems, including the railroad. This is what was dubbed the “Lost Concert.”
