Design of Hibiya Public Hall (1)

Koichi Sato’s Attention to Detail in Design

Hibiya Public Hall was designed with the utmost care and attention to detail by its architect. Architect Koichi Sato designed a magnificent public hall in the modern Gothic style.

Koichi Sato himself visited tile factories in Nagoya to examine more than a dozen tile samples. He spent many days selecting tiles, considering how they would harmonize with the building by fitting them at different heights and angles, and examining how they would reflect the light.

The chandeliers, now removed, and the marble lobby flooring create an austere atmosphere.

Surrounded by nature, the windows of Hibiya Public Hall reflect the changing seasons and provide a relaxing atmosphere for the audience during the intermission.
